What talent could possibly stand up to the likes of not just Ewan McGregor, but two Ewan McGregors? Carrie Coon, of course.

Noah Hawley and the fine folks behind “Fargo” came to the same conclusion today, setting the star of “The Leftovers” as the female lead of the anthology series’ third season. Coon will star opposite McGregor, according to a report by TVLine.

Coon is set to play Gloria Burgle (a name without the inherent poetry of Nora Durst, but oh so very “Fargo” nonetheless), a character described as “a practical woman who grabs the fire extinguisher when the bacon catches fire and everyone else panics.” A newly divorced mother, Burgle is also the chief of the Eden Valley Police.

It was announced previously that McGregor would be playing twin brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy. Emmit is the parking lot king of Minnesota, a handsome, self-made real estate mogul and family man. A real American success story, Emmit seems to have it all. Ray, however, is a balding, pot-bellied man who peaked in high school and now works as a parole officer. Bitter about how his life turned out, Ray blames his brother, Emmit, for all his misfortunes.

Season 3 is reportedly set closer to the present day than the first two. Production is expected to commence later this year, and new episodes are expected to run in 2017.

“Fargo” is expected to pull in quite the Emmys haul for its critically hailed second season. Nominations will be announced Thursday morning.
