When her “not-so-secret admirer” Ben accidentally falls to his death, high-schooler Charley is remarkably blasé about it. In fact, she actually meets a new boy at his wake.

“It’s so messed up having something so tragic and so amazing happening simultaneously,” she says to her best friend. That’s when Ben decides to make a surprise reappearance in her life: as a zombie.

And that’s just the beginning of the trailer for Awesomeness TV’s new show, “My Dead Ex.” Set to premiere its pilot episode at SXSW on March 11, the show follows the two teens as they struggle to understand dating, high school, and their feelings for each other, as the second half of the trailer — which addresses Ben’s resurrection from “a love spell” — suggests the rise of a deeper relationship.

The chemistry between Katherine Hughes (“Me and Earl and the Dying Girl”) and Ryan Lee (“Goosebumps”) is compelling enough to attract and maintain attention, as Ben being undead is now seemingly a non-issue. In fact, according to Charley’s best friend, “he’s actually hotter now that he’s dead.”

“My Dead Ex” also stars Medalion Rahimi, Ryan Malaty, and Alexa Losey. Following its debut at SXSW, the series will be available on Tumblr and the video streaming service go90 starting Tuesday, March 20. Check out the official poster and watch the trailer below.
