Hulu has yet to find a real breakout original series of its own, though the Seth Meyers animated superhero spoof “The Awesomes,” which premiered on August 1st, is probably its highest profile to date. The streaming service also released “Quick Draw” this month, an improvised half-hour western from “10 Items or Less” co-creators Nancy Hower and John Lehr.
Today the streaming service announced that it has greenlit still another original comedy, this one entitled “Deadbeat,” from “Wilfred” writers Cody Heller and Brett Konner.
Hulu’s ordered 10 episodes of “Deadbeat,” which is about a New Yorker who helps ghosts with unfinished tasks. “Arrested Development” director Troy Miller will helm all 10 episodes, and will executive produce the series alongside Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Sarah Esberg of Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment.
“Deadbeat,” which will go into production this fall, comes from Lionsgate Television, which also produces “Mad Men” and “Orange is the New Black.” Lionsgate will distribute the show internationally while Hulu holds U.S. rights.
