The hope for a “Dredd” series is still alive and thanks to Karl Urban, it’s making news once again. After a fan created a mock of what the series would look like on Netflix, the actor retweeted the image and responded with a message fans are freaking out about.
“Dredd 2: I’d do it!! Netflix or Amazon,” he tweeted. “There’s a gold mine of Awesome Mega City 1 stories!”
Urban starred as the Mega-City One enforcer in the 2012 film “Dredd.” Despite grand reviews by critics and audiences, it was poorly received at the box office. Many fans hoped that the action-packed movie would get a sequel but over a year ago screenwriter Alex Garland confirmed that there wouldn’t be one.
So, fans then decided to start a petition to get “Dredd” to become a television series stating,
“With the success of series such as ‘Daredevil,’ ‘Jessica Jones’ and ‘The Man in the High Castle,’ the clamor of the growing fanbase for more from the incredible world of the 2012 ‘Dredd’ movie cannot be ignored,” the petition says. “We call on TV and movie producers to step up to the plate and give us more, either through a pay-to-view TV series or a new movie!”
While no news of upcoming projects have been announced, the superhero enthusiasts will have to wait and see if the streaming services pick up on any of this attention. For now, it’s nice to know that Urban would still like to be part of the action!
