Ben Wheatley, the British director whose work includes the acclaimed horror film “Kill List” and the upcoming black comedy “Sightseers,” is the latest filmmaker to land a TV deal with HBO.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Wheatley is developing an original drama called “Silk Road” for the premium network, a “The Prisoner”-type thriller that he will write and direct. HR notes that while the details of the project are being kept secret, the title might be a reference to the notorious Tor online black market.

Wheatley will serve as an executive producer on “Silk Road,” along with Bradley J. Fischer, Laeta Kalogridis and James Vanderbilt of Mythology Entertainment, with Amy Jump and Andy Starke co-executive producing through Wheatley’s Rook Films.

This isn’t the first venture into television for Wheatley, who’s currently finishing up civil war drama “A Field in England.” The filmmaker got his start making viral videos, and went on to direct sequences and then episodes of BBC comedy series “Modern Toss,” The Wrong Door” and “Ideal.”
