Netflix Sets a Date for ‘House of Cards’ Season Two, Releases Moody Teaser
Season two of “House of Cards” will premiere on February 14th, 2014 — Valentine’s Day. Netflix announced the return date of its high-profile D.C. drama (produced by Media Rights Capital) by releasing a moody teaser, below, featuring Robin Wright wordlessly smoking, alone.
The first season of the Emmy-nominated series, which also stars Kevin Spacey and is produced by Beau Willimon, premiered February 1st, making it just over a year for the show to have its return. For the first time, with its upcoming original children’s show “Turbo: F.A.S.T.,” Netflix will be trying out a different releasing technique of putting out five episodes and then rolling the rest out over the year, but the streaming service has just confirmed that all 13 episodes of season two of “House of Cards” will go live at once in all Netflix territories, as before.

In the second season, Francis (Spacey) and Claire (Wright) Underwood continue their ruthless rise to power as threats mount on all fronts. Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara, “American Horror Story”), an up-and-coming reporter and Francis’s former paramour, is inching closer to the truth about his crimes. President Walker’s (Michel Gill, “The Good Wife”) billionaire confidante Raymond Tusk (Gerald McRaney, “Southland”) demands that Francis reciprocate political favors or face retribution. And Claire must confront the increasing glare of the spotlight as it eats away at her and Francis’s once private existence. The Underwood’s must overcome these dangers — past and present — to avoid losing everything, regardless of collateral damage they leave in their wake.
Robin Wright will be making her directorial debut in season two, and Carl Franklin, James Foley, John David Coles and Jodie Foster are all set to also direct episodes. Executive producer David Fincher, who helmed the first two episodes of season one, is notably not on the list of directors this time around — he’s currently working on “Gone Girl.”
