‘Pushing Daisies’ Is Now Streaming on CW Seed For Free
Bryan Fuller’s “Pushing Daisies” has been brought back from the dead — kind of. The axed cult classic is now streaming both seasons for free via CW Seed, the streaming service from The CW. All 22 episodes are available via Seed’s new Roku app for the next two weeks, in an effort to promote the product’s release, but will soon be available via the web, iOS apps and Google Chromecast.

In an effort to make CW Seed a destination for millennials, the streaming service has released a number of old favorites to drive up awareness by capitalizing on nostalgia. “The O.C.” is currently available, as is “Almost Human,” “The Ben Stiller Show” and “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” These shows and “Pushing Daisies” were produced by Warner Bros. Television, whose parent company Warner Bros. Entertainment has a 50-50 split share in The CW Network along with CBS.
According to Variety, the plan is to hook viewers with past favorites, before introducing new shows after awareness increases. It’s a similar strategy to what Netflix did when it first launched a streaming subscription service, except CW Seed is available for free and the acceleration to original programming should be quicker. Pete Holmes is hosting a short-form program titled, “The Elevator Talk Show,” in which the established comedian interviews up-and-coming comedians during an elevator ride at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal. Set for a December 15 release, those 40 episodes will be joined in early 2016 by scripted entries “Saving the Human Race,” a post-apocalyptic rom-com, and “Vampire! The Musical,” from YouTube creators AVByte.
CW Seed is already home to “Vixen,” an animated DC Comics’ property that’s built its audience off of Facebook advertising on The CW’s pages for “Arrow” and “The Flash.” With a target demo skewing younger than most networks, The CW is in a unique position to build a streaming service for the future, and adding shows like “Pushing Daisies” and “The O.C.” should only increase its chances in a crowded marketplace.
