Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington will star in and executive produce a limited series adaptation of Celeste Ng’s fiction bestseller, “Little Fires Everywhere,” Deadline reported. The move comes following the success of “Big Little Lies,” which Witherspoon executive produced alongside Nicole Kidman.

Set in Shaker Heights, Ohio in the 1990s, “Little Fires Everywhere” examines modern motherhood through three different families. The novel touches on themes of adoption and surrogacy, as well as race, class, and privilege. Ng is a winner of the Pushcart Prize for short fiction. “Little Fires Everywhere” is her second novel.

Ng will act as a producer on the series. Liz Tigelaar will write the script, as well as act as producer and showrunner. Tigelaar was executive producer and showrunner for the Hulu series “Casual.”

Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, Washington’s Simpson Street and ABC Signature Studios are shopping it to premium and streaming networks. Hello Sunshine has multiple film and TV projects in the works, including season 2 of its Emmy-winning “Big Little Lies,” as well as projects with Kristen Wiig, Octavia Spencer, and Jennifer Aniston for Apple’s streaming service.
