Hirokazu Kore-eda won the Palme d’Or at Cannes 2018 for “Shoplifters,” and any moviegoer who saw it knows exactly why. In addition to taking the top prize at Cannes, the film also earned an Oscar nomination last month for Best Foreign Language Film.
