Leonard Maltin and I have been friends and colleagues for over 40 years (!). I began my career working with Leonard on his animation history classic, Of Mice and Magic, as well as his book The Disney Films and on his annual Movie Guide. We’ve done a few audio commentaries together over the years, for Disney cartoons and UPA shorts – and now it was my pleasure last week to sit in on his weekly Maltin On Movies podcast.
Leonard – who also blogs via IndieWire’s Leonard Maltin’s Movie Crazy – is well known for his love for animated films and it was joy to discuss the subject with him on mike. We discussed our having grown up watching classic cartoons on TV; we talked about the recent animated shorts from Disney and Pixar, and we waxed over three overlooked animated features we really like: Disney’s Teacher’s Pet, Sony’s Surf’s Up, and Nina Paley’s Sita Sings the Blues.
Please have a listen at Wolfpop’s website or via TuneIn Radio or whatever your choice of podcast app. Here’s a few “behind the scenes” photos snapped on the set. I hope you enjoy!
