Lesbians and horror movies go together like sensible footwear and U-Hauls. From “The Hunger” to “Jennifer’s Body,” there’s nothing better than camp gore to make genre film sing with queer metaphors. The first teaser for “What Keeps You Alive” sets a bloody brilliant tone, as a young married couple become engulfed by venomous betrayals during a mountain getaway. The film heads to the SXSW Film Festival this week, where it will premiere in the always popular Midnighters section.

Per the official synopsis: “On the eve of their one year wedding anniversary, Jules and Jackie become embroiled in a merciless fight for their lives when they find themselves pitted against the most unexpected of adversaries: each other. As violence rains down upon their idyllic forest getaway, the women engage in a frenzied psychological and vicious battle that will test the very limits of their instinct to survive.”

Any lesbian will tell you — no one knows psychological manipulation like a woman scorned. As one of the women says in the trailer: “You can never really know what’s going on inside their head.” Amen.
