The 2019 Primetime Emmy Awards are currently underway in downtown Los Angeles, and there have been surprises galore.
Among them, Phoebe Waller-Bridge bested predicted favorite Julia Louis-Dreyfus when she scooped up Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy for “Fleabag.” Waller-Bridge also picked up Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, and the Amazon series nabbed a Directing honor for Harry Bradbeer, followed by Outstanding Comedy Series in a surprise near-sweep. Bill Hader, Patricia Arquette, Alex Borstein, and Tony Shalhoub have also all taken home acting honors.
During the telecast, Netflix dropped teasers for some of its upcoming series, including “The Politician” from creator Ryan Murphy, and starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Platt, Judith Light, Bette Midler, and Jessica Lange.
