The nominees for the 2023 Independent Spirit Awards are beginning to hit the blue carpet. One of the biggest days of the year for independent cinema, the Spirit Awards seek to honor the best films made for less than $30 million — plus the best performances in television. And with so many small films represented in this year’s Oscar nominations — including frontrunners “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “TÁR” — it’s very likely that quite a few future Oscar winners will be on hand for today’s festivities.

Which is probably fitting, considering that the show is designed to celebrate low budget independent films. But that doesn’t mean that the event lacks glamour or star power. The Independent Spirit Awards are the last major award show before the Oscars, so it’s a great chance to see your favorite stars before they put on their Oscar outfits.
