As the awards eligibility window closes and Academy members are nearing the time to vote for Emmy nominations, FX thought of a creative For Your Consideration event that is completely in keeping with the “Baskets” ethos. The network took over the Arby’s off of Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood one sunny day in May to serve up roast beef, curly fries, and healthy helping of self-referential humor to Academy members hungry for a unique awards experience.
Stars Zach Galifianakis, Louie Anderson, Martha Kelly, and many more stepped behind the counter and into the drive-thru window to expedite orders. The fast food joint was also bedecked in “Baskets” posters, screens played episodes of the show inside, and more Easter Eggs and cameos on location made this a heartwarming “Baskets” family event.
Here, co-creator and star Galifiankis works the drive-thru window.
Arby’s has been featured several times in storylines on FX’s “Baskets.” The network took over the Sunset Boulevard location on May 29.
The “Baskets” cast donned aprons with name tags and visors to work the counter at Arby’s.
The drive-thru menu was also customized to feature images from Season 3 of “Baskets.”
Academy members were greeted by Galifianakis’ smiling face at the drive-thru window to serve them.
Alex Morris, who plays Ken, and Louie Anderson, who plays Christine Baskets, are ready at the counter.
Customized menu. Every combo meal comes with Christine’s curly fries, which are curlier than at that other location.
The DJ twins Cody and Logan (Garry and Jason Clemmons) work the ones and twos – or as close as they can find at the Arby’s.
It looks as if the twins found another set of twins to serve.
“Where are those curly fries, people?!”
Martha takes IndieWire TV critic Ben Travers’ order.
Gotta go for the classic combo of roast beef sandwich, curly fries, and a drink. Note the branded cup and tray paper.
By the tables outside, Academy members could also test out the Frobot.
Martha Kelly test drives Chip’s mini clown car, which has seen lots of action, including crashing through the door of a Korean church.
Erik Argote, better known as Sleepy on “Baskets,” shows off his sign-spinning skills to point the way to curly fries.
