Here Are Some of TV’s Best Shows About Pot Culture By Liz Shannon Miller “Workaholics”“High Maintenance”“How I Met Your Mother”“Silicon Valley”“The High Court”“Time-Traveling Bong”“Broad City”“That ’70S Show”“Freaks and Geeks”“Bored To Death”“Weeds”“Wilfred” Let’s just say this: The title is ironic. Ben Sinclair plays a laidback dealer for the pot enthusiasts of New York (including Hannibal Buress) in the HBO anthology series. The comedy about five friends coming of age in New York City was more focused around booze. But many of the characters, from time to time, would enjoy a “sandwich.” Erlich Bachman, ladies and gentlemen. Maybe one of the most unrepentant stoners on TV today. If you like your justice served stoned, Judge Doug Benson’s weed-filled spin on “The People’s Court” is right up your alley. This three-part miniseries, which premiered last year on Comedy Central, chronicled two stoners discovering that their new bong had special powers. Abbi and Ilana might be TV’s premiere potheads, and with every season of “Broad City,” their adventures get more hilarious. Even if we never actually saw them actually smoke up on screen, the choice to acknowledge the popuarlity of weed during the titual decade was a pretty bold choice for a broadcast sitcom to make. One of the things that defined the titular “freaks” of the show was an interest in pot — a legacy which might have gone on to haunt stars Seth Rogen, Jason Segel and James Franco. Everyone enjoyed pot from time to time on Jonatham Ames’ quirky HBO mystery-comedy, but no one more so than National Treasure Ted Danson, which is reason enough to watch. Mary-Louise Parker was focused on selling weed, not smoking it — but by doing so, she made the residents of her tranquil suburb quite happy. The surreal FX comedy starred Elijah Wood as a young man who saw his dog as a pot-smoking Australian in a dog costume. Was Wilfred real? This show was perhaps too high to say for sure.
