The 7 Best Movies New to Netflix in August 2020

Netflix's August highlights include two Charlie Kaufman classics, "Jurassic Park," and a new one by "Hearts Beat Loud" director Brett Haley.

“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”

Netflix is ending the summer with its most interesting and unpredictable slate of the season, as the streamer is set to roll out an uncommonly deep and diverse roster of acquisitions and Originals; most of these movies have yet to screen in the United States (and some haven’t been shown anywhere), but odds are at least a few of them will prove to be diamonds in the rough. Netflix’s biggest Original of the month — the Jamie Foxx vehicle “Project Power” — definitely has the potential to spice up the dog days. Ditto “All Together Now,” another sweet and low-key music drama from “Hearts Beat Loud” director Brett Haley; this one stars Auli’i Cravalho, Fred Armisen, and Carol Burnett. There’s a Malin Åkerman comedy called “The Sleepover,” an Indonesian caper called “Crazy Awesome Teachers” (worth checking out based on the title alone), and the “Center Stage”-esque “Work It,” about a girl trying to dance her way into the college of her dreams.

Time will tell how those shake out, but Netflix is offering a few sure things as well. Subscribers excited for Charlie Kaufman’s “I’m Thinking of Ending Things” in September (and that should be all of them) will get the chance to catch up on some of his best stuff, as “Being John Malkovich” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” are both coming to the service. “Jurassic Park” is reopening for business, the magnificent “Ocean’s Twelve” is dropping in to steal a few new fans, and “Casino Royale” is coming through to remind us that there’s another Daniel Craig Bond movie on the horizon if America ever gets out of this mess.

Here are the seven best movies coming to Netflix this August.
