Seemingly with each of these monthly roundups, we’ve been introducing them with the idea that somehow the new TV show spigot has yet to close itself. Shows have come in from all different parts of the world, productions that managed to get underway in the latter half of last year have made their way through post, and a number of unscripted and documentary projects have bubbled to the surface.
Now, as the Emmy eligibility window slams shut and the Northern Hemisphere shifts its gaze toward potential summer activities, there’s another major theme in the new shows arriving to TV screens in June: Sports. With the Olympics plans still in flux and summer playoffs in full swing, this month is bringing a number of new series either based around sports or featuring athletes at their center.
Lest the overall balance be shaken too much, there are still some mainstays to make it feel like nothing in the TV world has changed: a Marvel series, a Stephen King adaptation, a historical epic, a couple family dramas, and a show based on an acclaimed movie.
