And so, another Emmys eligibility window is drawing to a close. (Hint hint, Academy: it doesn’t have to be this way!) As the final weeks tick off of the June-May calendar, this is the last push for networks to slide in their new shows under the wire.
While there are some returning series trying to get a last-minute awards push, this is a month with plenty of newcomer underdogs. A recent literary masterpiece gets a TV adaptation, a musical comedy vies for new love on Peacock, and Jean Smart continues her spring reign. Add to that a Marvel supervillain, a pair of doc series about LGBTQ+ history and the music that took the world by storm a half century ago, and an anthology of stars facing the future alone: you’ve got yourself another packed month of potential new favorites.
