May TV Premieres: 15 New Shows to Look Out for This Month

The next few weeks will bring series starring Ziwe, Jean Smart, Matthew Rhys, Patton Oswalt, Anthony Mackie, Lisa Kudrow, and Aretha Franklin.

And so, another Emmys eligibility window is drawing to a close. (Hint hint, Academy: it doesn’t have to be this way!) As the final weeks tick off of the June-May calendar, this is the last push for networks to slide in their new shows under the wire.

While there are some returning series trying to get a last-minute awards push, this is a month with plenty of newcomer underdogs. A recent literary masterpiece gets a TV adaptation, a musical comedy vies for new love on Peacock, and Jean Smart continues her spring reign. Add to that a Marvel supervillain, a pair of doc series about LGBTQ+ history and the music that took the world by storm a half century ago, and an anthology of stars facing the future alone: you’ve got yourself another packed month of potential new favorites.
