The Academy Awards are upon us. Whether you’re racing to catch as many films as possible before the big night, or focusing your attention on the top contenders in select categories, the 2023 nominees offer a solid blend of crowd-pleasing blockbusters, one-of-kind arthouse fare, and your typical Oscar bait.
Back in January, Academy voters wholeheartedly embraced the sequel, nominating both Joseph Kosinski’s “Top Gun: Maverick” and James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” for the top prize (they were also nominated at the Best Picture-predicting Producers Guild Awards, losing, though, to “Everything Everywhere”). Other follow-ups, including Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and Rian Johnson’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” are enjoying nominations in other categories as well. But Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s universe-bending original “Everything Everywhere All at Once” leads the broader race with 11 total Oscar nominations, including acting nods for nearly every member in its core cast.
This year’s Best Picture competitors also include Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis,” Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans,” Todd Field’s “TÁR,” Ruben Östlund’s “Triangle of Sadness,” Sarah Polley’s “Women Talking,” and Edward Berger’s “All Quiet on the Western Front.” Although “Avatar: The Way of Water” is still exclusive to theaters, the other nine honorees are available to stream right now — as are plenty of other nominees, including the movies vying for Best Animated Feature (“Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,” “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On,” “Turning Red,” “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” “The Sea Beast”) and Best Documentary feature (“All That Breathes,” “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed,” “Fire of Love,” “A House Made of Splinters,” and “Navalny.”)
To help you get started on (or more likely keep going with!) your Oscar preparations, we’ve pulled together all the information you need to watch 36 of the feature-length nominees: what each movie is, how good it is, where to see it, and which Oscar(s) it’s nominated for in 2023. From “The Batman” to “The Fabelmans,” from Michelle Williams to Michelle Yeoh, from “Avatar” to “TÁR,” here’s where to stream many of the Oscar-nominated films competing at the 95th Academy Awards on March 12.
Note: Unless a film currently streaming is listed as exclusive to a specific platform, it can be found through VOD as well. Shorts have been excluded from this guide.
