What the Cast of ‘Succession’ Is Up to Next

Nicholas Braun

Internet boyfriend Nicholas Braun, aka Cousin Greg, stars in 2023 Sundance hit “Cat Person,” based on the viral short story of the same name. Directed by Susanna Fogel, “Cat Person” stars Braun as an older suitor of a college student (Emilia Jones). 

“It’s fascinating,” Braun told IndieWire of the New Yorker story. “It’s one of the best scripts I ever read. I was just struck by [the story], and luckily [director Fogel] hired me.”

Braun added of his career post-“Succession,” saying, “We’ve been doing it for more than six years, so it has been a long job. But it’s the best job I ever had in my career — until ‘Cat Person.’ The show changed my life, I love it…Something like [‘Cat Person’], this is an amazing thing to get to make. So I hope other good opportunities come my way.” 

Brian Cox

In classic Logan Roy fashion, Brian Cox has everything planned out for his next roles. Cox is confirmed to be appearing in multiple upcoming projects, including “Mending the Line” about a Marine veteran coping with PTSD. 

Cox will also appear in Tom Kirby’s “The Glove,” Matt Greene-Delanghe’s “Skelly,” and Christian De Vita’s short film “Wittgenstein’s Poker.” The actor additionally is set to star opposite Parker Posey and Lisa Kudrow in “The Parenting” and will lend his voice to period piece “Unsinkable” and franchise installment “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.” 

Cox’s most anticipated role comes in “The Electric State” from Joe and Anthony Russo. The film follows an orphaned teen who travels across the American West with a robot looking for her brother. Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan, Millie Bobby Brown, Jenny Slate, Chris Pratt, Anthony Mackie, Stanley Tucci, Billy Bob Thornton, and Jason Alexander additionally star.

As for the stage, Cox confirmed that he will be starring in “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” opening in Spring 2024 in London. He also stated he hopes to direct his first feature film. 

Kieran Culkin

Roman Roy is going international. Actor Kieran Culkin will co-lead Jesse Eisenberg’s sophomore directorial effort, “A Real Pain.” Eisenberg writes and stars in the dramedy about two cousins who travel to Poland after their grandmother’s death to see where they came from and end up joining a Holocaust tour. 

Matthew Macfayden

Tom Wambsgans is trading the Big Apple for the Midwest. Actor Matthew Macfayden is slated to lead “Holland, Michigan” from director Mimi Cave (“Fresh”). Billed as a thriller centered on a woman (Nicole Kidman) who suspects her husband is cheating, the film follows the character as she enters into an affair of her own, before learning her husband’s true, dark secret life. Rachel Sennott and Gael García Bernal also star in the erotic thriller.

Macfayden was also cast in “Deadpool 3” alongside Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. 

Alan Ruck

After portraying Connor Roy, Alan Ruck isn’t taking a day off. The “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” icon is set to star in the movie “Wind River: The Next Chapter,” written by Patrick Massett & John Zinman (“Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”) and directed by Kari Skogland (“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”). Ruck joins Gil Birmingham, Martin Sensmeier, Kali Reis, Tatanka Means, Jason Clarke, Chaske Spencer, and Scott Eastwood in the follow-up to Taylor Sheridan’s 2017 crime drama. 

Ruck also leads legal drama “The Burial” alongside Tommy Lee Jones, Jamie Foxx, and Jurnee Smollett, plus Sean Whalen’s “Crust” with Daniel Roebuck. 

J. Smith-Cameron

As audiences hold their breath to see if J. Smith-Cameron’s Gerri consummates her toxic relationship with Roman (Culkin), Smith-Cameron is already gearing up for her next role. She will appear in Hannah Marks’ “Turtles All the Way Down” adaptation of John Green’s novel about a teenager (Isabela Merced) who tries to solve a mystery surrounding a fugitive billionaire. 

Smith-Cameron additionally will appear in “Waco: The Aftermath” along with Gary Cole, Shea Whigham, Michael Shannon, and Giovanni Ribisi. 

Sarah Snook

Sarah Snook will take on another empire after vacating the role of Shiv Roy: the Beanie Babies craze of the ’90s. In “The Beanie Bubble,” Snook stars opposite Elizabeth Banks, Zach Galifianakis, Geraldine Viswanathan, and Carl Clemons-Hopkins about the brand that took over plush collectibles. 

Sarah Snook also goes back to her roots for the Australian horror film “Run Rabbit Run,” which premiered at Sundance 2023 and was acquired by Netflix out of the festival for release later this year.

Jeremy Strong

Kendall Roy is taking a break…but not for long. Method actor Jeremy Strong confirmed in a GQ cover story that while parting ways with “Succession” will “feel like a death, in a way,” he is looking forward to the “freedom to just shoot yourself out of some different cannons” in his career.

“Sometimes Kendall feels like the same cannon over and over again,” Strong said. “When I was younger, I saw the future in the crosshairs. I don’t feel that anymore. There is a feeling of ‘Now what?‘ that I don’t have the answer to.” 

One of those cannons will be leading a new Broadway production of Henrik Ibsen’s “An Enemy of the People” about a medical officer whose scientific findings lead him to close the spa that is his town’s main source of income. Amy Herzog who led Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House” with Jessica Chastain is adapting the story. Sam Gold (“The Glass Menagerie,” “King Lear”) will direct, with the play opening in early 2024.

Strong noted that he is looking to collaborate with David O. Russell on a project.
