10 LGBT Film Festivals To Head To This June
Pride Month is upon us and it’s pretty much as a good a month as it gets for LGBT film festival around the world. So in this monthly series here at /bent, we’re offering a directory of some of the most notable festivals in that regard (if you happen to live near these ten cities, at least). From Tel Aviv to San Francisco to Seoul to Honolulu, here’s where to get your LGBT cinema on this June:
Out Twin Cities Film Festival
When: June 4-8
Where: The Mall of America in Minnesota
Programming Highlights: Relocating to the Mall of America for its 5th edition, Minnesota’s main LGBT film event includes feature films like “To Be Takei,” “Drunktown’s Finest,” “The New Black,” “The Rugby Player” and “Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine,” as well as Queer Media Project, a youth focused twelve week crash course in film making at Minneapolis Television Network, who will showcase their final project at the festival.

Seoul LGBT Film Festival
When: June 4-10
Where: Seoul, South Korea
Programming Highlights: The biggest LGBT film festival in South Korea is bringing the likes of “I Want Your Love,” “Stranger By The Lake,” “Born This Way,” “In The Name of” and “I Am Divine” to the Seoul Art Cinema (the website was largely in Korean so we couldn’t find much information beyond that).

TLVFest
When: June 7-16
Where: Tel Aviv, Israel
Programming Highlights: Coinciding with the largest Pride Festival in the Middle East, Tel Aviv’s LGBT film festival offers a great lineup of some of the best LGBT films to hit the recent festival circuit, including “52 Tuesdays,” “Eastern Boys,” “The Way He Looks,” “Vulva 3.0″ and “To Be Takei” — as well as a strong collection of Israeli features and shorts. Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival
When: June 10-15
Where: Honolulu, Hawaii
Programming Highlights: The 25th anniversary of Hawaii’s LGBT film festival includes a slew of great films, like “The Case Against 8,” “The Circle,” “The Dog,” “Floating Skyscrapers,” “Free Fall,” “Reaching For The Moon,” “Test,” “Tom at the Farm” and “The Way He Looks.” Plus, it’s in Hawaii!
B’More QFest: A Film & Media festival
When: June 12-15
Where: Baltimore, Maryland
Programming Highlights: The town that brought us John Waters and “The Wire” offers 4 days of LGBT film this June, including “Heterosexual Jill,” “The Rugby Player,” “To Be Takei,” “Laurence Anyways,” “The Little House That Could,” “The 10 Year Plan” and loads of great short films.

Queer Women of Color Film Festival
When: June 13-15
Where: San Francisco, California
Programming Highlights: A presentation of the Queer Women of Color Media Arts Project (QWOCMAP) — which promotes the creation, exhibition and distribution of new films/videos that address the vital social justice issues that concern queer women of color and our communities, authentically reflect our life stories, and build community through art and activism — the 9th annual Queer Women of Color Film Festival includes the films “Babes, Hot Babes,” “Seeds of Resistance” and “Girl Power!”

Provincetown International Film Festival
When: June 18-23
Where: Provincetown, Mass
Programming Highlights: The Provincetown International Film Festival is truly about as good as a small film festival gets. Unofficially queer (but given it takes place in one of the gayest places on Earth and has John Waters as its permanent resident artist, it’s pretty darn queer), the festival always has great programming, great parties, and great guests. Because who doesn’t want to spend a weekend in P-Town? Patricia Clarkson and Debra Winger sure do, as they’ll be joining David Cronenberg as this year’s festival honourees (/bent will also be covering this fest!)

MIX MILANO
When: June 19-23
Where: Milan, Italy
Programming Highlights: The full program has yet to be announced, but check back at this website for when it is.
Bent Lens: Pride on Screen
When: June 12-August 17
Where: Toronto, Ontario
Programming Highlights: The Toronto International Film Festival and the Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival are partnering up for a very impressive summer film program to coincide with their city being the first in North America to host world pride this month. Talks from Laverne Cox and Lee Daniels, special appearances by John Cameron Mitchell (hosting a sing-a-long to “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”!), Isaac Julien, Bruce LaBruce, Jonathan Caoutte and Scott Treleaven, and a retrospective on Derek Jarman are just some of the events planned for “Bent Lens: Pride on Screen,” which launches June 12th. Frameline
When: June 19-29
Where: San Francisco, California
Programming Highlights: Frameline, the world’s largest LGBT media arts nonprofit organization, has set the lineup for the 38th San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival. The world’s largest LGBT film festival, it’s really more of a question of what isn’t screening there. With an expected attendance of 65,000, the 11 days of Frameline brings the best in queer cinema to San Francisco from nearly 800 film submissions. “The Case Against 8,” “Lilting,” “I Feel Like Disco,” “Appropriate Behavior,” “The Way He Looks,” “Out in the Night,” “To Be Takei,” “Cupcakes,” “Regarding Susan Sontag” and a 15th anniversary screening of “Boys Don’t Cry” are among the highlights… (/bent will also be covering this event!)
