Maybe Emma Stone would rather star in Woody Allen movies than “Ghostbusters” reboots/sequels? Even if each one isn’t a success artistically, it still seems like the right choice; an artisan over a franchise, and one that’s had trouble coming to the screen. For an added bonus, she gets to work with Joaquin Phoenix, one of the best actors in the game at the moment, and together they’ve cooked up “Irrational Man.”
The movie is another breezy, existential piece from part-time jazz musician Woody Allen, this time following a college professor facing a personal crisis. But it all changes once he overhears a crucial conversation in a restaurant, and it gives him a new perspective on his life, surprising everyone around him. Joining in the fun are Parker Posey and Jamie Blackley.
