1. Transmedia Storytelling: Jeff Gomez, president and CEO of Starlight Runner Entertainment,
has impressive transmedia storytelling credits,
having worked on projects such as
“Avatar,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles.” Gomez will be conducting a
one-day master class
on “Creating Blockbuster Transmedia Story Worlds & Brands” at the
new Made in NY Media Center by IFP on December 11. Indiewire recently
talked to him about the rules of transmedia storytelling and why even
low-budget independent filmmakers need to incorporate transmedia into
their story worlds. Read Gomez’s rules of transmedia storytelling here.
2. Buying a Digital Cinema Camera: Before you buy that digital cinema camera, read these tips from Craft Truck about what you need to know.
3. House of Cards: Alison Willmore reports that season two of “House of Cards” will premiere on February 14th, 2014 —
Valentine’s Day. Netflix announced the return date of its high-profile
D.C. drama by releasing a moody teaser, featuring Robin Wright
wordlessly smoking, alone. Check it out here.
4. Spatial Storytelling: First, there was transmedia and now, a new project from Switzerland is called IDNA – Spatial Storytelling, which could be an entirely new space for storytelling (somewhere between film and video games). In this project, a 360-degree video narrative for handheld devices tells a different story depending on how viewers hold their tablet. “Rather than having
the movie’s director choose how the action is framed, viewers can tilt,
rotate and spin the tablet around in space in order to explore an entire
360-degree world by themselves while the narrative continues,” according to SpringWise.com.
5. “Fruitvale Station:” The critically acclaimed “Fruitvale Station” will be available for early digital HD download on New Year’s Eve, two weeks ahead of its release on on DVD, Blu-Ray, Video-On-Demand and Pay-Per-View on January 14, 2014. Find out more here.
