One of last year’s best TV series, the remarkable, lived-in portrait of trans woman Maura Pfefferman, her ex-wife (Judith Light), and her three adult children (Amy Landecker, Jay Duplass, and Gaby Hoffman) wowed critics, audiences, and awards voters in its freshman season. Now, the series returns with the wedding of Maura’s eldest, Sarah (Landecker) and old flame Tammy (Melora Hardin)—and with the same scruffy, low-key vibe that marked its debut. The gorgeous, almost Altman-esque sequence depicted in the teaser trailer has all the warmth and perceptiveness that have become associated with Soloway’s series, from the chaotic staging and overlapping dialogue to the potent issue of pronoun (mis-) usage.
