Brief New Footage From ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’; “Immigrant Song’ Video By David Fincher & Sneak Screenings On Monday, December 12th
So, didn’t get tickets to “The Dark Knight Rises” prologue screenings? Well, another opportunity to see a hotly buzzed movie before everyone else has popped up and instead of six minutes, you’ll get to see the whole damn thing.
We haven’t been keeping track of the whole viral game going on over at “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” site What Is Hidden In The Snow, but FirstShowing has been keeping up and here’s the short version. The game has nearly come to end, with flowers and various props going out to fans around the world, and the big kicker is the reveal that on Monday, December 12th at 10 pm, there will be screenings of the film in Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Toronto, London and Stockholm. So how do you find out the details? Keep your eyes glued to the Mouth Taped Shut Twitter feed as they will apparently be providing that info today (probably with a few more clues to figure out).
Incidentally, this also reveals why Sony, producer Scott Rudin and director David Fincher were furious about the New Yorker’s embargo break on reviews for the film. The surprise screenings were likely planned far in advance and they didn’t want any reviews to hit before fans got a taste of the film first. They probably wanted fan reaction and critical response to arrive at the same time on December 13th. So for those crowing that embargos are an outdated notion, here’s your reason why they are still important to studios and filmmakers who carefully plan how a movie will roll out to audiences.
Anyway, that’s not all. Entertainment Tonight ran a glossy piece on the film which includes a brief bit of new footage that you can watch below. Meanwhile, How To Destroy Angels‘ cover of Brian Ferry‘s “Is Your Love Strong Enough” on the massive soundtrack for the film has also arrived and you can listen to it below. Finally, Pitchfork has unveiled the video for “Immigrant Song” with Karen O on vocals. It’s trippy and gives a taste of the talked-about opening credit sequence.
“The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” opens on December 21st.
