Cannes Unveils Critics’ Week Lineup Including Lowery’s ‘Ain’t Them Bodies Saints,’ Adds Guest of Honor Kim Novak
In Cannes news, the 52nd International Critics’ Week sidebar has announced its official selection of seven international films in competition as well as three special screenings. Founded in 1962, Critics’ Week aims to promote the work of burgeoning international directors. Jacques Audiard, Bernardo Bertolucci and Leos Carax — who all had films screen at Cannes last year — are just a few of the world-renowned directors who got their start there.
One of the special screenings includes David Lowery’s Sundance hit “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints,” which stars Casey Affleck as a prison escapee who sets out to reunite with his wife (Rooney Mara). Critics’ Week director Charles Tesson told Variety he considered screening a second Sundance film but decided not to. Read TOH’s review of “Saints” here.
The seven films in the competition (“Saints” will not take part) will vie for the Critics’ Week Grand Prize, which last year went to Antonio Mendez Esparza’s Mexican drama “Aqui y Alla.” View the full selection below, and watch a video detailing the Critics’ Week selection.

In other news on the Croisette, Hollywood icon Kim Novak will be the Cannes Fest’s
guest of honor this year, appearing with a screening of Alfred
Hitchcock’s newly restored “Vertigo” as part of the Cannes Classics
series. On Sunday May 26th, the last day of the festival, Novak will present one of the main competition prizes when they are announced.
