– Kickstarter’s Senior Film Outreach Lead Dan Schoenbrun is striking out on his own. In an email sent to colleagues and friends this week, Schoenbrun shared his plans to “leap into self-employment” by starting a new company with his producing partner. Although Schoenbrun kept mum on the details, he did share that he’s “incredibly excited to continue supporting the independent film community in my new capacity, and I’m very thankful for all of the incredible work I’ve had the privilege of being a part of here at Kickstarter.” Schoenbrun joined Kickstarter in 2014 after working as the Associate Director of Programming at IFP. Before that, he was an associate editor at Filmmaker Magazine.
– Los Angeles-based entertainment PR and marketing firm Prodigy Public Relations has upped Richard Stafford to Vice President – Film Publicity. In his new position, Stafford will work to to help shape the media strategies for the firm’s theatrical, film festival and home entertainment campaigns. Stafford joined Prodigy in 2012 as an account executive after spending more than a decade in radio, reality television and film production. Before joining Prodigy, Stafford worked in various roles for television and film productions for companies including MTV, Warner Bros., and Endemol.
– Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group has hired Jake Zim as their new Senior VP of Virtual Reality. He will be tasked with “building a slate of narrative VR content” for the film group and will work closely with a team of Sony professionals who are all dedicated to the production and distribution of VR. Zim previously served as Senior VP, Digital Marketing for Sony, where he oversaw promotional VR initiatives for the studio.
– Gail Berman’s joint production venture with Fox Networks Group, The Jackal Group, has announced that the company has hired executive Hend Baghdady as Vice President of Production and Alternative Programming. In this newly created position, Baghdady will head the creative development and production of content for alternative programming and digital distribution, as well as oversee production for linear television and film projects. Baghdady most recently served as Executive Producer and the Executive in Charge of Production at ADHD Studios, under the Fox Network Groups umbrella.
