Cinema Guild Picks Up ‘Maidan,’ Sergei Loznitsa’s Cannes Doc About Ukraine Revolution

“Maidan,” Sergei Loznitsa’s timely documentary on the popular uprisings in the Ukraine, has a distributor. Cinema Guild has picked up the film, which screened at Cannes in May.

Loznitsa and Cinema Guild have quite a history. The distributor has already released his feature length documentary “Settlement” (2001) and shorts “The Train Stop” (2000), “Portrait” (2002) and “The Factory” (2004). The native Kievan followed the progress of the people’s revolution through the Winter of 2013-2014 to craft a film about an awakening nation rediscovering its identity.

“We’ve long been admirers of Sergei Loznitsa’s work, having distributed several of his remarkable early films,” commented Ryan Krivoshey of Cinema Guild, “so it is particularly exciting to be working on the release of his magnificent new documentary ‘Maidan.’ As audiences will soon discover, ‘Maidan’ is one of the most urgent and groundbreaking political documentaries to come along in years. We look forward to working with Sergei and Maria on its release.”

The film will be given a full theatrical release later this year, which will be followed by home and VOD releases.
