COHEN MEDIA GROUP ACQUIRES JEFF PROSSERMAN’S RIVETING DOCUMENTARY “CHASING MADOFF”
New York, NY (Thursday, April 14, 2011) – Charles S. Cohen, Founder and President of Cohen Media Group, announced today their acquisition of Jeff Prosserman’s documentary “Chasing Madoff” based on the New York Times best seller “No One Would Listen” by Harry Markopolos, published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.. The film is directed and produced by Jeff Prosserman and executive produced by Jeff Sackman, Randy Manis and Anton Nadler.
Comparable to the dogged pursuit of Al Capone by Eliot Ness, “Chasing Madoff” is the compelling story of Harry Markopolos and his team of investigator’s ten-year struggle to expose the harrowing truth behind the infamous Madoff scandal. Throughout the decade long investigation, Markopolos pieced together a chain of white-collar predators consisting of international bankers, lieutenants, and henchmen, all linked to the devastating Ponzi scheme. With risk and danger apparent, Markopolos and his loyal team relentlessly continued to pursue the frightening truth. Finding himself trapped in a web of epic deceit, the once unassuming Boston securities analyst turned vigilante investigator feared for his life and the safety of his family. Arming himself to the teeth, Harry became increasingly paranoid as the press continuously silenced his efforts of exposure and he discovered that no one would listen. “Chasing Madoff” is a documentary feature that reveals the shocking true story behind the Bernard Madoff scandal from the team that discovered it ten years before the public.
“Harry Markopolos showed incredible commitment to the perusal of truth as the man who knew that people were wronged by the Ponzi scheme conceived by Bernie Madoff. We are proud to distribute the film that illuminates the 10 year struggle that Markopolos went through,” says Charles Cohen.
“Chasing Madoff is a microcosm of the greed and hubris that plague our turbulent economic times. I am excited to partner with Cohen Media Group to release the film in the United States. Their courage and expertise will play an integral role in getting this story out to the world, “says Jeff Prosserman
The deal was negotiated by Raquel Liberman on behalf of Dembitzer and Dembitzer LLP and Gary Rubin on behalf of Cohen Media. Andrew Herwitz, President of the Film Sales Company, negotiated the deal for the producers.
