Daily indieWIRE Clicks: Fall Festival Wishlist, a Southern Gay Romance & More

Today at indieWIRE, we rounded up what we hope will make it to festivals this fall, Eric Kohn churned out two new reviews and Pixar got everyone excited for November 27, 2013 (don’t worry, it’s not the apocalypse).

George Clooney, Madonna, Steven Soderbergh and More: This Fall’s Festival Wishlist
Even as Cannes announced its lineup, speculation and predictions loomed about what was in store for the two biggest festivals of the late summer.

indieWIRE’s Weekend Recap: Here Are Seven Stories You May Have Missed
In case you were away from your computer this weekend (it was Father’s Day!), here’s a tidy package of our weekend coverage that includes reviews out of the Los Angeles Film Festival, a great interview between John Waters and Darren Aronofsky (together at last) and a weekend box office report that included some surprising winners and losers.

REVIEW | “A Better Life” Is a Strong Immigration Story, But Not Quite Strong Enough
“There are moments in Chris Weisz’s immigration drama that transcend the familiarity of the material, and others that play directly into it. In the swift, wordless opening sequence, the director reveals the life of sullen middle-aged gardener Carlos (Demián Bichir) living out his days as an impoverished illegal immigrant in Los Angeles. The credit sequence encapsulates an entire 12-hour period in Carlos’ life, from waking up on his living room couch to toiling away in the heat and then back to his claustrophobic abode as dusk sets in.” More here.

LA Film Fest REVIEW | “Leave It On the Floor” Revisits Ballroom Scene With Flaws, But Plenty of Life
“Revisiting the African American ball culture first made famous by Jennie Livingston’s 1990 New York-set documentary “Paris is Burning” and the Madonna single “Vogue,” Sheldon Larry’s colorful movie musical “Leave It On the Floor” takes place in a similar Los Angeles scene.” Read Eric Kohn’s review here.

John Waters & Darren Aronofsky Live One Night Only! At Provincetown Fest
During a sometimes hilarious and other times straightforward awards ceremony at the 13th annual Provincetown International Film Festival, Darren Aronofsky took to the stage with legendary provocateur John Waters for a lively discussion.

Cruz, Eisenberg, Gerwig and Woody Himself Lines Up for Allen’s Latest, “The Bop Decameron”
Woody Allen’s projects are always chock-full of in-demand actors and his latest is no exception. Today Allen released the full cast for his next project, “The Bop Decameron.” It’s a doozy. Starring in alphabetical order are: Woody Allen, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page. Co-stars include Antonio Albanese, Fabio Armiliata, Alessandra Mastronardi, Ornella Muti, Flavio Parenti, Alison Pill, Riccardo Scamarcio and Alessandro Tiberi. More here.

indieWIRE’s Project of the Day: Rural Southern Gay Romance, “The Last Summer”
Each week, we usually gather up four or five projects in progress to feature in a single column. Now it’s going to be a daily feature, so we can give the spotlight to a single project each day. Today’s is “The Last Summer,” in which Luke and Jonah, high school sweethearts in a rural southern town, prepare themselves to say goodbye as they spend one final summer together.

Here’s the Teaser Trailer for Pedro Almodovar’s “The Skin I Live In”
Pedro Almodovar’s latest film, “The Skin I Live In,” is based on Thierry Jonque’s novel “Tarantula,” and follows crazed plastic surgeon Robert Ledgard (Antonio Banderas) who’s using pig genes to create impenetrable human skin. He also keeps a strange woman captive in his home (although she does have fabulous skin). Watch the trailer here.

Box Office: Docs “Page One” and “Buck” Make Decent Debuts; Searchlight’s “Art” Does Not Get By
According to estimates provided by Rentrak earlier today, Andrew Rossi’s “Page One: A Year Inside The New York Times,” and Cindy Meehl’s “Buck” both posted respectable debuts on a handful of screens.
