"Daily Show" Mocks Film Critic Who Points Out "Noah" Is "Not Documentary"

On last night’s “Daily Show,” Jon Stewart took on critics of Darren Aronofsky’s “Noah” who’ve been attacking the movie for its divergence from Biblical text. While it’s mostly the usual gang of ill-informed Fox News scold, including one who compares the movie to her childhood memories of the Noah story in which “everybody lives happily ever after,” and one who explains that Noah getting drunk and having “some dark moments” were “not things that some early test audiences were excited about. “Who do you think you are,” Stewart deadpans, “Genesis 9:21?” He also takes aim, around the one-minute mark, at Kevin McCarthy of Fox’s Washington, D.C. affiliate, for pointing out that “Noah” is “not a documentary.”

Times being what they are, McCarthy responded on air — the embed’s not working, but you can watch the clip here — and it seems like he’s got a solid complaint about being taken out of context. But given that his defense is sandwiched between a reference to the previous day’s “Rio 2” danceoff and a painfully awkward segue into a junket interview with “Transcendence’s” Rebecca Hall, we’re tempted to call this one a draw.
