In his dedication speech at the opening of Disneyland, Walt Disney said that he hopes the institution “will be a source of joy and inspiration for the world,” and over the past 60 years, that wish has come true. With each new addition to the park, Disneyland becomes a more inclusive attraction that seeks to reach the most people everywhere. Case in point: Disneyland will soon unveil a new “Star Wars”-themed land at their Anaheim park. Deadline reports that they’ve already started prepping the area for attractions, including a VR-controlled Millennium Falcon, Han Solo’s famous spaceship. It will be the largest “land” at the park. Lucasfilm was founded by filmmaker George Lucas in 1971, and is best known for creating the “Star Wars” and “Indian Jones” franchises, along with developing cutting-edge special effects technology. In 2011, Lucas entered into talks with Walt Disney to acquire the company. In 2012, Disney officially acquired Lucasfilm for over $4 billion. The first film released under the new partnership was “Strange Magic,” a computer-animated musical comedy about a land of bog creatures living in the forest, and the second was “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the first film in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy.
The next “Star Wars” film, the first stand-alone anthology film “Rogue One,” will be released on December 16th.
