DreamWorks Takes Rights Upcoming Roosevelt vs. Taft Tome 'The Bully Pulpit'

A week ahead of the book’s publication, DreamWorks has snapped up rights to Pulitzer Prize-winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin’s highly anticipated “The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism,” studio partner and co-chair Stacey Snider announced today.

The book (out November 5 via Simon & Schuster) tells the story of Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft, two longtime friends who became bitter political enemies in 1912 when they went toe-to-toe for the presidential nomination.

“The Bully Pulpit” delves into the historical aftermath of their rivalry, which divided their friends, families, colleagues and the Republican Party.

Author Kearns Goodwin worked with Steven Spielberg on “Lincoln,” based partly on her book “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln” with an Oscar-nominated script by Tony Kushner.

In 1995, Goodwin won the Pulitzer Prize in history for the political biography “No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II.”
