The Creative Talent Network (CTN) is back! The seventh annual CTN Animation eXpo (CTN-X) will commence Friday, November 20th through Sunday, November 22nd. Thousands of animation professionals, students and fans will descend on Burbank for this 3-day event – which includes industry leaders from such studios as DreamWorks, Nickelodeon, Walt Disney Animation, Sony Pictures Animation as well as studios from around the world.
This Annie Award winning event takes place at the Burbank Marriott Convention Center – across the street from the Bob Hope Burbank Airport. Special guests this year include Peter Lord (who will be interviewed by Animation Scoop’s Charles Solomon on Friday November 20th at noon); Don Hahn, who will preside over a Rescuer’s Down Under staff reunion panel (at 2:30pm on Friday Nov. 20th); and Laika Studios, who will be feted with a major tribute on Saturday (21st) at 5:30pm.
One major do-not-miss event of the weekend (among several) is the “Rat’s Nest” Reunion. In the late 70s, “The Rat’s Nest” was a derogatory name given to a small group of young, rebellious animators who where relegated to a tiny room in the Disney Feature Animation building. Eager to have their voices heard in the regimented studio environment of that time, this group, trained by Walt’s “Nine Old Men”, instead, took the name as an ironic badge of honor. These mavericks ultimately went on to direct and animate several now classic films both inside and outside of Disney. All of the original Rat’s Nest members will attend this panel: Brad Bird, Dan Haskett, Bill Kroyer, John Musker, Jerry Rees, and Henry Selick!
Yours truly (Jerry Beck) will moderate three panels: The Making of Hotel Transylvania 2 – Saturday November 21st at 2:30om; The Making of Kung Fu Panda 3 with Jennifer Yuh on November 22nd at 2:30pm; and Behind The Scenes of The Little Prince with Mark Osborne on Sunday at 6:15pm. Join me!
Also there is a FREE open CTNX house on Thursday 7:00pm just to check out their new digs and layout this year. If you are in animation you can’t afford to miss CTN this year. Many more panels and a hundred exhibitors… more information: Click Here. Be there!
