Indie distributor KimStim has just landed one of their most promising acquisitions yet by securing distribution rights to “Lamb,” which is Ethiopia’s Oscar submission this year for Best Foreign Language film. The drama, which opens the New York Jewish Film Festival this Wednesday, January 13, was also the first Ethiopian title to be an official selection at Cannes, and it has earned numerous awards and acclaim at various festivals in the months since.

Marking the debut feature of Yared Zeleke, the tells the story of a half-Jewish, half-Ethiopian boy named Ephraim. When he’s sent by his father to live among distant relatives after his mother’s death, Ephraim uses his cooking skills to carve out a place among his cousins. His relatively peaceful upbringing is shattered, however, when his uncle decides that his beloved sheep must be sacrificed for the next religious feast, forcing Ephraim on an odyssey to save the animal and return home.

KimStim is planning a late spring, early summer theatrical release for the drama.
