Filmmaker Laura Poitras' Work Rewarded With Pulitzer Prize

The 2014 Pulitzer Prize winners were announced today. Among the winners was work led by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Laura Poitras, who worked with both winning publications, The Washington Post and The Guardian, for their stories on NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, who leaked the documents that proved
that the NSA was collecting phone and data records from telephone and
internet companies for the past several years.

Poitras was one of the first journalists to meet with Snowden in Hong Kong, where she shot her video interview with the whistleblower for The Guardian. Since then she has reported on Snowden’s NSA disclosures for news outlets including Der Spiegel and The New York Times.

The documentarian, best known for the Oscar-nominated Iraq War doc “My Country, My Country” and the Sundance winner “The Oath,” is currently editing a film focused on the NSA. For the full list of Pulitzer Prize winners go here.
