A new featurette has arrived for Darren Aronofsky’s biblical epic “Noah,” wherein the director takes us through the process of building a key set piece: the ark. In the video, Aronofsky and his production designer Mark Friedberg discuss how the dimensions of the ark are laid out in the Bible. As opposed to a ship-like structure with a bow (the conventional image of Noah’s ark), the structure is actually described as a giant box, which is exactly what the “Noah” team have made.

It’s telling the featurette focuses on the pains Aronofsky and his crew took to achieve accuracy in terms of Biblical text. Paramount is clearly hoping to attract a religious demo for the $130 million would-be tentpole, and concern has already been brewing for months as to whether Aronofsky’s vision is taking too much poetic license. Will it turn off the audience they’re hoping to attract? Either way, the film looks gorgeous.

Meanwhile, it seems Paramount made last-minute changes to the marketing materials for “Noah” without consulting the director. A religious disclaimer, reading “This film has been inspired by the story of Noah,” has been added to the film and all its marketing. Per the Wrap, Aronofsky has said he doesn’t want to do anything to hurt the film at this point, but also doesn’t want to pander to audiences.

“Noah” arrives March 28.
