Today in graphic-novel news, James Badge Dale has been cast in the upcoming adaptation of “The Empty Man.” The Boom! Studios comic is being developed by Fox, who have tapped David Britten Prior to direct; Ross Richie and Stephen Christy of Boom! are producing. The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news.
First published in 2014, “The Empty Man” was written by the Eisner Award–winning Cullen Bunn with illustrations by Vanesa R. Del Rey. Plot details are being closely guarded, but the graphic novel is set in the Midwest and concerns a supernatural entity that may or may not be behind a spate of disappearances in a small town.
Badge Dale recently appeared in Michael Bay’s “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi” and “Robert Zemeckis’ “The Walk,” both of which dramatized real events rather than fiction; he also starred on the television series “Rubicon” and “The Pacific.”
