Joshua Rothkopf Named Film Editor Time Out New York

After narrowing its film staff from three to two in November, Time Out New York has officially named Senior Film Critic Joshua Rothkopf to the post of Film Editor. Rothkopf has been in the news most recently as the outgoing chair of the New York Film Critics Circle who presided over the awards ceremony whose disruption eventually led to Armond White’s expulsion. Rothkopf has written for TONY since 2004, and was previously the chief film critic for In These Times. The complete press release follows.

TIME OUT NEW YORK

New York, NY (January 30, 2014) – Joshua Rothkopf has been promoted to Film Editor of
Time Out New York. Rothkopf will be leading film coverage in New
York, and collaborating with teams in all Time Out cities to ensure that
Time Out continues to inspire and inform film-goers around the world.

Rothkopf will report to Terri White, Editor In Chief of
Time Out New York, and Dave Calhoun, Time Out’s Global Film Editor, based in London. “I’m delighted that Josh Rothkopf is becoming
Time Out New York’s Film Editor at this very exciting stage in
the development of Time Out’s film coverage,” said Calhoun. “Josh is
already a key voice in US film journalism and has been a core part of
Time Out New York‘s film team for ten years. Josh will be
integral to growing and broadening Time Out’s film coverage in New York,

New York colleagues’ reviews will now be read by Time Out’s
ever-increasing global audience, from the US to India, UK to China.”

Time
Out’s Film section will continue to provide reviews, exclusive
interviews, news, features and comprehensive local listings. In
addition
to reporting on major new releases, the team will continue its robust
festival coverage, reporting from the Sundance, Berlin, and Cannes film
festivals in early 2014. As Time Out expands, coverage will draw from a
growing network of film writers around the
world. 

Joshua Rothkopf has worked at Time Out New York
since 2004, and was named Senior Film Critic in 2007. His critiques have appeared in publications including PenthouseDetailsThe Village VoiceThe Chicago Reader and In These Times,
where he was chief film critic
from 1999 to 2003. Recently, he served as chairman of the New York Film
Critics Circle from 2012 to 2014. Rothkopf teaches at NYU’s School of
Continuing and Professional Studies, and lives in Brooklyn.
