Hailing from China, Gan’s debut feature is a visually stunning homage to his childhood home and China’s anachronistic village lifestyle. The film tells the story of country doctor Chen Sheng, as he travels to the outskirts of major metropolitan cities in search of his brother’s long-lost child, finding along the way a new sense of purpose and meaning to his mundane life. Meandering between past, present and future, as well as reality and imagination, Chen is thrown into a dreamlike world that forces him to question his sense of actuality.
