The minute-long spot provides a glimpse of Kubo’s (Art Parkinson) life before meeting the talking monkey (Charlize Theron) who sends him on a quest to find his father’s armor, including a brief scene between him and his mother. Theron and Parkinson are joined on the voice cast by Rooney Mara (as the Sisters), Matthew McConaughey (Beetle), Ralph Fiennes (Raiden the Moon King) and George Takei (Hosato).
Laika’s previous films are “Coraline,” “ParaNorman” and “The Boxtrolls.” Focus Features is releasing “Kubo and the Two Strings” theatrically on August 19.
