Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario and Dwayne Johnson have snagged leads in the upcoming “Baywatch” movie, but an original casting idea for the TV series would have seen an even bigger star slip into one of those famous red swimsuits.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, original “Baywatch” producers Michael Berk and Douglas Schwartz spilled a particularly juicy set secret: A young Leonardo DiCaprio was almost cast as David Hasselhoff’s son.

“We actually had DiCaprio ready to be cast,” Berk told THR, “But David thought he was too old to play his son.”

According to Schwartz, Hasselhoff thought DiCaprio’s casting would make him look older. “He had a lot of concerns of that type,” Schwartz admitted. Jeremy Jackson, six years Leo’s junior, was cast instead.

Nevertheless, the show ended up being a worldwide hit, and Leo’s career clearly survived the snub.

As for the big screen version, the “Baywatch” movie will hit theaters in May 2017. Johnson shared a first look at the film yesterday with a fittingly patriotic poster.
