Locarno Interntional Film Festival artistic director Olivier Père is leaving his post after three years in the position, festival organizers announced Monday. He will take on the role of general director of Arte France Cinema.

“I wish to thank Olivier Père for his work and major achievements over the last three years that have consolidated Locarno’s position in the international arena, and I am delighted for him at this next step in his brilliant career,” said fest president Marco Solari.

The Board of Governors will meet September 4 to hear suggestions for a replacement from Solari and the Directorate, with a press conference scheduled for later that day to announce any decision.

“Useful, challenging and perfectly organised, the Festival del film Locarno is a major international film event with a solid reputation all over world,” said Père. “I am very sad to be leaving the Festival but am also immensely satisfied with what has been achieved.”

The Locarno festival just completed its 65th edition.
