Last month, “The Mummy” reboot was put back in the coffin, so to speak, when helmer Len Wiseman, in a rare move of taste and thoughtfulness, bailed from the project citing vague “scheduling issues.” Since then, word has been “mum” (ha!) on the brewing bad idea, but rest assured, Universal has found a way to keep this thing going.

And so, they’ve rounded up Andres Muschietti, the filmmaker behind this year’s early horror hit, “Mama.” Granted, it’ll be his first time working on a movie with considerably larger scale, but the bottom line is he made a ton of money already for Universal, with the low budget “Mama” earning over $140 million worldwide, which initially spawned talk of a franchise. That being said, Muschietti has been cool on the idea, so has he simply leveled up to a bigger and better gig? Our guess would be yes, though it probably won’t be the last time Universal will try and twist his arm on a “Mama 2.”

Anyway, “The Mummy” has a script from original “Prometheus” scribe Jon Spaihts, but other than that, details are wrapped up in fabric, other than it will take place in a contemporary setting. In short, “The Mummy” lives.
