**Spoilers ahead** Last month, we learned that more than 2,500 actors had met or have put themselves on tape for the movie to play Han Solo in the upcoming “Star Wars” spinoff focused on the iconic hero and space smuggler. What we didn’t know at that time was just how big a responsibility would be on the shoulders of whoever was chosen. With Han Solo’s fate now known, tragically murdered by the hand of his son Kylo Ren in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” it’s going to make the job that much more difficult, with the chosen actor having to follow in the footsteps of Harrison Ford and carry with them the knowledge of what awaits the character. But it seems some seasoned names are in the running for the job.
Variety reports that Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen, and Blake Jenner are among a dozen contenders now vying for the gig. So what’s the rush to cast somebody if the Phil Lord and Chris Miller-directed movie isn’t arriving until 2018? According to the trade, Han Solo might have a cameo in the currently filming “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” which details the heist to steal the plans for the Death Star (which takes place before ‘A New Hope‘).
That sort of forced interconnectedness was something I’d hoped the “Star Wars” movie would avoid, but perhaps Disney can’t avoid duplicating what has worked so well for Marvel.
