UPDATED: Morgan Spurlock’s production company Warrior Poets has entered into an exciting new development deal with The Associated Press. AP will offer Warrior Poets unlimited access to its extensive resources, and assets across broadcast, digital and mobile platforms. This means that Warrior is now invited to cull from AP’s library of award-winning content to develop new scripted and unscripted projects in film and television, and online.

Currently, Warrior Poets is in production on the new docu-series “Seven Deadly Sins,” slated to premiere on Showtime on June 19th.

EARLIER: When you’ve got a brand, use it. Morgan Spurlock has made himself a name in documentaries. He’s one of those prolific larger-than-life personalities who knows how to work the system. Going into the new era indie distribution business makes sense.

Warrior Poets, the New York based production company founded by Spurlock (“Super Size Me,” CNN’s “Inside Man”) and his producing partner Jeremy Chilnick is partnering with Virgil Films (“Restrepo,” “Forks Over Knives”) and Richard Abramowitz’s indie distribution company Abramorama (“Exit through the Gift Shop,””Particle Fever”) to acquire and release distinctive fiction and documentary features theatrically and on cable VOD. The films will be distributed under the banner “Morgan Spurlock Presents,” beginning with Brent Hodges’ Tribeca documentary “A Brony Tale” in July and Heather Winters’ award-winning rock doc “Two: The Story of Roman & Nyro” later in 2014.

The partners aim to champion and release quality narrative fiction and documentary films with identifiable target audiences. They will release the films in 20 to 30 theatrical markets just before making them available on cable VOD–partners are in the works.

“I think it is our duty as filmmakers to help champion and support the work of the next generation of talented filmmakers whose films deserve to be recognized and available to audiences around the country,” stated Spurlock. “We are incredibly grateful to our theatrical and cable VOD partners in creating this world class platform(s) in which to showcase these projects.”

Abramowitz added: “We’ve only just started and we’ve already discovered a few gems. I’m excited to be working with Morgan and Joe to bring all of these terrific films out into the world.”
