When he’s not busy being the nation’s unofficial astrophysicist-in-chief, Neil deGrasse Tyson has a side career fact-checking science fiction movies, much to fans of, say, “Gravity’s” chagrin. He’s explained that bad science doesn’t necessarily make a movie bad, and that he’s a fan of no less a scientific horrorshow than “Armageddon,” but to many he still comes off as a know-it-all killjoy, and they often take to Twitter to voice their disapproval. Well, Neil deGrasse Tyson has been keeping tabs on you, @JoshFromSchool and @puturknifeinme, and now it’s his turn.
In a video posted at National Geographic’s site, Tyson responds to claims that he is “such a dweeb” and “the worst person to watch movies with,” the latter by arguing that the actual worst person to go to a movie with is someone who’s read the book it’s based on. (I mean, we can all agree people who read books are assholes, no?) Tyson’s generally a pretty affable fellow, but he pulls out his best smack talk to shut his critics down, and it’s a pleasure to watch.
