They’re back! Their waistbands may be expandable but they’ve proven that they are indeed “The Expendables”. In the third installment of the highly successful franchise, Stallone and crew return to hunt down a ruthless arms dealer (as if the plot really mattered), played by Mel Gibson. The usual suspects have returned and have brought the aforementioned Gibson, Harrison Ford and women’s MMA champion Ronda Rousey with them. The first “Expendables” opened to $34 million in 2010 and #2 debuted at $28 million two years ago. The thinking here is that this could be the highest of the three.
Oh that’s right other movies are opening next week as well and they both have a real shot at box office success. Weinstein’s “The Giver” is based on the best selling book and features Oscar winners Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep. The red carpet premiere will be shown live in theatres next Monday, followed by the first showing of the movie. In addition, Fox has “Let’s Be Cops” which is gaining social media steam, especially with the urban audience.
On the limited side, I am eagerly awaiting “The Trip To Italy”, the second gastronomical outing for Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon. If I remember correctly, I gained 6 pounds after I saw “The Trip” back in 2010. Let the pappardelle and Michael Caine impressions commence!
In addition, Michael Fassbender (in a giant fake head–see accompanying photo) stars in the comedy “Frank” from Magnolia, A24 confirms there’s “Life After Beth” and on the Bollywood front “Singham Returns” in the form of star Ajay Devgn.
