‘Nurse Jackie’ Gets One Last Shift for Seventh & Final Season

David Nevins, President of Showtime Networks Inc., announced today the premium cable network will be closing the doors of Manhattan’s All-Saints Hospital with a seventh and final season of “Nurse Jackie.” The dark comedy-drama, about a pill-popping emergency department nurse played by Edie Falco, premiered to critical acclaim in 2009 and became a strong entry in Showtime’s catalogue of complex female-led dramadies. The sixth season averaged 3.4 million weekly viewers across all platforms, meaning “Nurse Jackie” will get to say goodbye while successfully remaining in viewership demand.

“Edie is one of our finest actresses,” said Nevins. “We are so honored to have had her on the network. She creates indelible characters and Nurse Jackie Peyton is no exception. I know this final season will bring her story to a close that will satisfy the ever-growing number of loyal viewers who have been entranced and, at times, appalled by Jackie through the years. I want to thank Edie, the incredible cast and Clyde Phillips and Richie Jackson who have led the show to the success that it is today.”

The drama has garnered Emmy awards for supporting actress Merrit Wever and star Eddie Falco, who was once again nominated for her performance at the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards in August. Additionally, the show has earned a Humanitas Prize, an AFI Award for Outstanding Television Program and several Prism Awards for its depiction of substance abuse. It has also placed Falco in the rare position of being the only actress to ever win the lead acting Emmy Awards in both comedy and drama categories.

The final season will premiere in 2015 with previously announced guest star Tony Shalhoub joining the cast.
