With cameras now rolling on Paul Thomas Anderson‘s next movie, the Thomas Pynchon adaptation “Inherent Vice,” the cast continues to grow and one of the key lead characters has been found, but it’s not any A-list name.

Deadline reports that rising actress Katherine Waterston — yes, daughter of Sam Waterston — has booked the part of Shasta in the film. But she’s not exactly inexperienced. So far, her resumé is peppered with work alongside acclaimed filmmakers like Tony Gilroy (“Michael Clayton“) and Ang Lee (“Taking Woodstock“), and she’s got a role in Kelly Reichardt‘s next picture, “Night Moves.” But, she’s never worked with a cast like this that includes Joaquin PhoenixBenicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Josh BrolinMartin Short, Jena Malone and Kevin J. O’Connor with Sean Penn possibly maybe joining as well.

Set in 1970s Los Angeles, the story follows inept, pot-smoking private detective Doc Sportello as he investigates the case of a kidnapped girl (Shasta), who also happens to be one of his ex-girlfriends. Warner Bros. is behind this one, and it’s already on our Must See list for 2014.
